Breastfeeding for Doulas
Investment: $75

As a doula, there is much to know about breastfeeding. Even those of us who have nursed our own babies can benefit from guidance on how to best support others. Your birth doula clients will look to you for support to begin breastfeeding in the first hour after birth, and you will be on their list of people to call when they have questions on their breastfeeding journey.  Join us to explore the breast, the baby and how you will help support new moms! Topics will include:

• assisting with the baby's first nursing after birth
• breastfeeding basics and barriers
• anatomy and physiology of the breast
• the mother/baby relationship
• the how-to’s of a good latch
• breastfeeding in the earliest hours, days and weeks of life
• common challenges and how to connect clients with expert support

This engaging course fulfills the breastfeeding education requirement for certification with DONA International. Pre-registration is required, e-mail jessica@birthkalamazoo.com.
